VSO Inspector

Want to access some useful information about your CD, DVD, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD writer or readers? If your answer goes something like “I sure do”, then I present to you a free software application from VSO Software: VSO Inspector. Launch this application and useful hardware info will be displayed on its interface.

A setup wizard will help you install VSO Inspector on a Windows-powered machine. You will have to go through a standard setup procedure: download an installer, run it, click through the instructions presented by the aforementioned setup wizard. You will be done with the whole thing in little time.

At the top of its interface, VSO Inspector presents a dropdown that lists all your CD, DVD, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD devices. Choose a device and info about it will be presented in the tabs underneath. There are multiple tabs on the interface: Device Features, Media, Scan, System, Sector Viewer. Click through them to view information about your hardware.

From a functionality point of view, you can expect to get the following from VSO Inspector: general info about your CD, DVD, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD devices, view read and write features, check for firmware update, physical information about your media, query database, surface scan, file test scan, sector viewer, eject CD, DVD, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD device, save report.

VSO Inspector is freeware. This means you can use the application for free for as long as you want.

VSO Inspector works as advertised, has a simple interface, and it is free. I don’t see what’s not to like about this application.
